A capsid is the assembly of molecules enveloping the DNA of a virus.
Like a box which, when opened, reveals its true content, I like to think that a musical work - in addition to its ability to arouse emotions - harbors within it a potential for development for future generations. In addition, the virus metaphor refers to the notion of " note foreign to mode " in the context of improvised music such as jazz or Indian music. Thus, so that this note is not perceived as a false note but as an accident constitutive of the musical discourse, it must be repeated and possibly, build, inflect, transform the discourse from it if not to change mode . The title therefore refers to the principle of writing the work.
Written in one movement, this work has the whimsical character of an improvisation and develops certain potentialities contained in two of my previous works : Vignettes I for 2 flutes in C and Ubuhuha for solo flute. It is thought of as if a single flute were playing, but subjected to a work of quasi electroacoustic deformation of the sound processing (demultiplication, more or less delayed echoes, spatialization, amplification, homophony and homorhythm, amplification, resonance, distortion, etc.) in order to to create unusual sounds. However, it thereby reconnects with the spirit of many non-European monodies, where a sung voice is, at the very least, duplicated by another monodic instrument which plays (in unison or at the octave) the same melodic pattern. more or less quirky and ornate. Here, the three instrumental parts have the same level of complexity and it is unclear who accompanies the other. This explains why the instrumentalists play almost constantly and without silences.
The work of composition is characterized by a succession of modes of play and instrumental gestures that are more varied than developed. Music constantly opposes one character to its opposite : individual/collective, tender/brutal, tense/relaxed, soft/shrilly, slow/fast, etc. De plus, un élément « bruitique » (souffles, sifflements, doigtés factices, « sons sur timbrés_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b -136bad5cf58d_”, key percussion, vocals, etc. broadens the expressive register of the flute by integrating a sound dimension specific to the primitive arts before becoming a commonplace in contemporary writing.
I thus like to underline the ambivalence of this instrument which is the one I have been practicing for so long. Solar instrument par excellence, on the contrary, the flute lends itself to halftone tones, the famous broken tones of painters. Poetically, these release in their sweetness a certain appeased melancholy and the trills, tremolos, “ sons détempérés_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb35_13dorités et autres” voisés » and veiled, then participate in an atmosphere full of grace, lightness, joy of living, not devoid of moments of dazzling anguish.
