Flash over for brass quintet (1998)
Dedicated to the quintet Turbulences by David Guerrier
Created on July 5, 2005 as part of the Franco-European Trumpet Symposium organized by Pierre Dutot in Bordeaux
Duration : approx. 6'. Editions Francois Dhalmann
The title Flash Over is an English neologism that can mean " splintering outside " and corresponds to the idea I have of this instrumental formation_cc781905-5cde-3194- bb3b-136bad5cf58d_: warm and brilliant at the same time.
These 3 pieces for brass quintet meet a very specific request : a short work, in several parts, without excessive search for difficulties and therefore playable by students at the end of their studies.
The 1st movement -Vif- is dazzling like fireworks (approx. 1'50)
The 2nd movement -Très Vif- is a set of notes repeated from one instrument to another in a restricted range, punctuated by short impacts covering a wide range (approx. 1'15)
The 3rd movement -Vif- with more contrasting tempi, is a kind of summary coda where all the constituent motifs of the work clash and collide as in a kind of whirlwind (approx. 3')
The coherence of the work is ensured by the limited number of motifs of opposing characters which cross the work from start to finish, thus contributing to a form in one movement, made up of three sub-parts each exploiting their own motif.
