Piano Version

A sotie is a satirical farce.
Contrary to what the title might imply, there is no question here of “program music”. On the contrary, this short piece implements an entirely traditional material and compositional processes. The fourth interval is predominant there and all the numerous and very different motifs are subject to more or less varied and deliberately underdeveloped contrapuntal work.
This farce is therefore characterized by its unexpected ruptures, its winks and its impulses. Like all satires, it does not stay in place: moving, unstable, biting, sometimes joyful, sometimes sad, it wants to be the antidote or at least the opposite of the dramatic vision of existence that it is supposed to turn. in derision.
But where is the line between tragedy and comedy?
Emotion maybe.
