Dedicated to Philippe Noharet

This work - in free form - was born from my friendship and my collaboration with Philippe Noharet, member of several ensembles (WOP, Opéra de Paris, TM+) and tireless researcher of sounds and unusual uses of his instrument, both in classical music as contemporary, jazz and world music.
Our work will have consisted in researching and developing techniques that are little used but quite possible because they are already used occasionally, provided that we leave the classical or traditional framework of thought for this instrument.
Thus, the precision of the slightest detail makes the writing of this work unique (articulations, nuances, bowing, dynamics, incredible timbres, etc.). In the minute contrasts and minimalist and sophisticated modes of play resides a subtle poetry - meticulous images with sharply defined contours - which require the performer to invent new methods of producing sound.
Instrument of contrasts - from brutality to tenderness, and from anxiety to the full and complete affirmation of sound - the double bass conceals infinite riches too often untapped that I hope to have cleared up here a little.
By analogy, the title obviously refers to the size of the clothes and not to any sexual connotation… the octobass would then be XXL, the cello L, the viola M and the violin S!
